The Scottish legal system is supported by one of the best and most extensive systems of legal aid in the world. It ensures that all areas of Scots law are covered by the provision of legal aid to financially assist any person seeking legal assistance.

What does this mean for me?
It means that Central Court Lawyers are in a position to offer you the opportunity to apply for legal aid .This initial assessment will not cost you anything.
Legal aid works in a simple way. In every case there is a financial assessment based on your income, expenditure and assets. In some types of legal aid it also involves an assessment of the merits of your case. Our experienced team will take you through the whole process and will ask you to provide proof of your financial circumstances (for example your recent bank statement).

In short –yes. This means that any case from a fixed penalty notice to a case in the High court will be eligible for legal aid.

Yes.
Legal aid is available to someone working on the same basis as those not working. It involves an assessment of your ability to pay. This can result in legal aid being available with a financial contribution. Again we offer a free assessment of your entitlement to legal aid and will advise you fully. Only in a small minority of cases is a contribution likely to be payable.
